All of our “Shoot Back in Time” participants enjoyed a WW1 themed trip to Hampden Park over the course of the project, which was a fantastic learning opportunity.
The children took part in a full stadium tour and got the chance to see areas such as the players dressing rooms as well as experience what it’s like to come out of the tunnel during a game.
Following the tour, the kids spent time in the Scottish Football Museum and learned of the strong connection between football and WW1. For example, did you know that the Scottish Cup was suspended during war time?
Jamie Kirk, on behalf of the football club, had this to say about the trip: “The Hampden Visit was always intended to be a massive part of the project, but seeing the kids soak up the heritage first hand brought home just how powerful football can be in teaching what can sometimes be quite a difficult topic. All credit goes to the children from Stenhousemuir PS, Dunipace PS and Airth PS for their efforts.”
